My week in Nicaragua was an unforgettable and life-changing experience. The organization I went with is BLITS Worldwide, who is partnered with Samaritan’s International, which is the compound where we stayed. Samaritan’s International has set up hundreds of feeding centers and worship centers throughout Nicaragua, and has taught people about the loving God we believe in. Throughout the week we visited several communities filled with people who were desperately poor and felt forgotten. We went to the Managua Dump, the Nindiri Dump, a couple preschools, and many villages. When we went to these places, we sang Spanish songs, people shared their stories, and people shared the word of God. After our time of fellowship, we would give the people rice, toiletries, clothes, and toys. Whenever we gave people things we were told to tell them, “Jesus te ama” (Jesus loves you). The people there were thrilled to be receiving gifts, but what surprised me was that they were happier to receive the word of God and to be able to praise God with us. It was shocking how many adults just wanted us to pray with them and how many kids just wanted to be held, loved, and played with. The people of Nicaragua were always happy and smiling. Most of them didn’t have much, but they were so content to just have God in their hearts. After this week, I am left so much more grateful and stronger in my faith. Thank you to everyone who supported me and prayed for me! Without you, this experience wouldn’t have been possible.
