It is that time of the year to donate supplies for the UMW annual backpack drive. We have for many years donated backpacks to the social workers in Chatham County schools to be given out as needed to children in need.
A child’s job is to succeed in school. That is hard to do when they don’t have the necessary tools to do their job. Can you imagine doing your job without the tools that you usually use?
Dig deep in to your heart and your wallet to support this very important mission. If you want to buy supplies, we need the following items:
70-sheet spiral bound composition books
Loose-leaf notebook paper/150 sheet packs
Pencil sharpeners – hand held type w/top
Glue sticks
#2 pencils
Pencil top erasers
Block type erasers
If you would prefer to have someone else do the shopping, then you can write a check to Brown’s Chapel and put it in the offering or give it to Lisa M. or Ann T. These donations will be included in your annual giving report.
Carrie has already purchased the backpacks and we need donations to pay for them. She got a really good deal and needed to act quickly. Also, with the purchase, 10% of the price went to a charity of our choosing. Carrie chose to send the 10% to the social workers so that they can have funds to buy other supplies as needed. The average cost of a backpack, complete with supplies, is $25.
Last year we donated 150 backpacks. This year Carrie, the coordinator, is challenging us to donate 160.
Don’t let the children of Chatham County start the school year without necessary supplies. They are counting on us!!
