What a fabulous day today was at church. We celebrated 168 years of worship, service and fellowship at Brown’s Chapel. The church was established by Dr. Gaston Brown, who is buried at our sister church, Pleasant Hill.
The scripture for today dealt with wisdom. During worship, Ray asked for people to share who at Brown’s Chapel have given a word of wisdom. Lou talked about Charles Sirls teaching Sunday School and having the kids learn the books of the Bible. Denise talked about Geraldine. Kenneth talked about Mr. Jack Lutterloh and TC Justice. Mary talked about a bit of wisdom that she learned from the 2nd grade boys she used to teach (who are all now young men in college!).
Also, during worship we remembered those family members that had died since the last Homecoming. When their names are read, a bell is run and a candle is lit. It is a very moving ceremony.
The choir sang beautiful anthems and it was wonderful to hear the creeds and the hymns from a full congregation.
And, of course, after church, the bounty was spread and everyone was able to eat all kinds of wonderful things.
And while eating, folks got to catch up with friends and family.
And we got to celebrate a new family starting! Alex said Yes to Jaeder!
And when it was all over, the table looked a lot lighter.
I am sorry if you missed it. If you did, mark your calendars for the 3rd Sunday in August, 2016 so that you don’t miss the next one.
