Each year the UMW have spearheaded the annual backpack drive. Donations are given by so many people and the money and supplies go to getting things that kids need for back to school. Each year the UMW members think they have maxed out the number of bags donated. But the following year they give more. This year was no exception. This year 260 backpacks were purchased and stuffed with supplies. Then another 36 were purchased. Carrie worked with the volleyball team at Northwood High School to put the supplies in the bag. Big Thanks to Brown’s Chapel, who donated 290 backpacks and school supplies to the students in Chatham County. The NHS Girls’ Volleyball Team stuffed the backpacks with all of the supplies. They will be distributed to students at NHS, and Preston Ferguson and Saundra Gardner will distribute the backpacks to other Chatham County social workers to be distributed to students at other schools.
