Casting Our Cares on Jesus (part 2)
Scripture: 1 Peter 5:6-7 “Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your anxiety upon Him, because He cares for you.”
Let us look at the beginning of the verse and we see that we are to be Humble. That is always difficult when we want to be in control over our own circumstances and often even want to control others too. A. Begg put it this way, “Being humble is what enables us to give our worries to God. Humility’s presence leads to anxiety’s absence.” Casting All You Cares (9/11/1998). C.S. Lewis summed it up this way, “Humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less.”
When we don’t allow for God’s guidance in our life, then we will certainly stray off the correct path and get lost. Matthew wrote in Chapter 6:31-34, that God promises that we will be provided the basics like food, water, clothing and all things our Heavenly Father knows that we need. But how often do we impatiently allow our desires to overwhelm us with credit card debt, burdensome loans and a lifestyle beyond “our means” and not possible to sustain. Do we expect God to bail us out?
Finally, some folks say, Why should we even bother God with all our anxieties? Why, “because He cares for us.” end of Verse 7. When we were young children, how many times did we go to our parents with our troubles and fears. We would know that they would comfort us with reassuring words and open arms. But as we got into those teenage years, we would want to be more independent and “grown”. Then how many times did we get into trouble running from the advice and wisdom of our caring parents. So, how much more does our Heavenly Father want to show us the plan He has for us. A path and plan that will glorify Him and bring joy to our lives.
So as we experience the many anxieties (and we all will). And as we are put through the trials that will be tough, we must ALWAYS believe we have a loving Father who will carry our burdens and get us through the difficult times. He does have some commandments that He has given us to help transform our lives. So in our victories and our failures we can always know that His love will bring us “the peace of God that surpasses all understanding, that will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7
Amen
