
Obituary
Edward Monroe Screws was born May 2, 1933, in Hamlet, NC.
He is pre-deceased by his parents James M. Screws, Jr. and Annie Screws, three brothers and two sisters. After graduating from Pittsboro High School, he joined the United States Air Force where he served from 1951-1955.
He retired from UNC Chapel Hill where he worked at the Physical Plant. In his younger years he enjoyed quail hunting, square dancing, traveling with his wife and friends, and UNC Basketball. He was a member of Brown’s Chapel United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Hazel Screws of Pittsboro, and brother Garrett Screws Sr. of Pittsboro. He leaves to cherish his memory 17 nieces/nephews, 24 great nieces/nephews, other loved ones, and friends.
A graveside will be held Saturday, May 14, 2022, at 11:30 AM at Brown’s Chapel United Methodist Church with military honors with Rev. Ray Gooch presiding.
